This guide concerns the law and procedures of Türkiye.

Short answer

Registering a residence application, submitting a complete file and receiving permission are different stages. Keep the document that confirms each stage rather than relying only on a short online status message.

Identify the application type and deadline

First applications, renewals and changes of permit category are different procedures. First and change applications start through e-İkamet, followed by the assigned appointment with the required documents. Renewal applications can be made from sixty days before the existing permit expires and must be made before expiry. A changed purpose of stay may require a different category. Official applications and appointments are free; statutory fees and card charges are separate.

Follow the period stated in a missing-document notice

The authority may allow up to thirty days to complete missing documents. This is not an automatic thirty-day extension for every applicant. Read the requested documents, submission method and deadline together. Keep proof of delivery: obtaining a document is different from submitting it. Failure to complete the file within the specified period may result in the application being removed from processing.

Distinguish an online status from formal notification

Tracking the application through e-İkamet is useful, but a refusal, cancellation or non-renewal decision and its notification record require separate examination. A screenshot does not always replace formal notification. Keep address, telephone and email details current. Preserve the full decision, delivery or service date and any electronic notification record. Different administrative decisions may have different remedies.

Understand the ninety-day assessment period

The Migration Directorate states that the ninety-day assessment period starts when complete information and documents reach the competent authority; applicants are informed of an extension. This does not guarantee approval. An authorised lawyer can make an application, but the authority may still require the applicant to attend. A timeline of registration, appointments, document delivery and notices makes the file easier to follow.
